Delivering Yamaha their first stage win at the 2019 Dakar Rally, WR450F Rally powered Xavier de Soultrait has secured victory on stage three of the event in Peru. Making today’s stage even more successful for the Yamalube Yamaha Rally squad, Adrien Van Beveren claimed a fourth-place result and climbed to fourth in the event’s provisional overall standings.

Following a well-calculated plan of attack, Xavier de Soultrait managed to make full use of his navigational skills during today’s stage three of the Dakar.

Stage two of the 2019 Dakar Rally challenged all motorcycle competitors with an extremely fast, and rough, timed special of 342 kilometres. Leaving Pisco and heading south along the coast towards San Juan de Marcona the unusual stage saw the cars opening the route, leaving the bikes to deal with the many tracks ahead of them in the sand. The added traffic not only caused the terrain to cut up badly, but also made navigation even more of a challenge.

Making a strong start to the 2019 Dakar Rally, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pablo Quintanilla has secured a runner-up result on the opening stage from Lima to Pisco. Demonstrating good speed on his FR 450 Rally machine, Andrew Short got close to the top 10 by finishing 13th on Monday’s stage.

The first special of this Dakar was won by a rampant Joan Barreda in Adrenarena de Paracas, near Pisco. But it wasn’t just Joan who shone in the Monster Energy Honda Team: Ricky Brabec posted third after an outstanding ride in the dunes with Benavides, Cornejo and Gonçalves occuping notable positions.

Day one, en route from the Peruvian capital Lima to the bivouac located around the city of Pisco, consisted of a total of 332 kilometres of stage, with only 84 km against the clock was enough to set up the first official race leader board of the 2019 edition of the Dakar Rally.
